Angela Roberts

Person-Centred Psychotherapist | Clinical Supervisor | Trauma & Sexual Violence Therapist | Parts-Informed Therapy - offering online therapy

Meet Angela Roberts

(She/Her)

Angela is a person-centred psychotherapist and clinical supervisor specialising in trauma and supporting people who have experienced sexual violence, abuse and difficult or overwhelming life experiences. Her approach is compassionate, thoughtful and deeply respectful of each person's individual experience. Angela understands that trauma can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, your body and the present moment. You might find yourself overwhelmed by emotions, shutting down, feeling unsafe even when you know you are safe, or noticing different "parts" of you pulling in different directions.

Angela offers a therapeutic space where you don't have to rush to make sense of everything. She works collaboratively and at your pace, helping you gently understand what has happened to you, how you learned to survive it, and what you might need now.

A central part of Angela's trauma work is helping people develop a greater sense of safety and grounding in the here and now.

Trauma can sometimes make the past feel very present. Your mind may know that something is over while your body, emotions or nervous system continue to respond as though the danger is still happening. Angela can help you notice these responses with curiosity rather than judgement and develop ways of returning to the present when you feel overwhelmed, disconnected or triggered.

Therapy might involve exploring:

  • grounding and stabilisation
  • understanding trauma responses
  • reconnecting with your body
  • recognising triggers and patterns
  • developing emotional regulation
  • building a greater sense of internal safety
  • strengthening your ability to stay present when difficult feelings arise

Angela has a particular interest in parts work and is currently undertaking training in Internal Family Systems (IFS). After trauma, it can sometimes feel as though different parts of you want very different things. One part might want closeness while another pushes people away. One part might feel frightened while another becomes angry. There may be a highly capable part of you that keeps functioning while another feels exhausted, vulnerable or overwhelmed. Rather than seeing these responses as something that needs to be "fixed", Angela helps you approach them with curiosity and compassion.

Together, you can begin to understand what these different parts may be protecting you from and what they need in order to feel safer. The aim isn't to get rid of parts of yourself. It is to develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself so that your past does not have to hold the same power over your present.

Angela's initial training was in person-centred psychotherapy, and this remains at the heart of her work.
She believes that you are the expert on your own experience. Therapy is therefore collaborative rather than something that is "done to you". Angela brings warmth, empathy and curiosity alongside a flexible and creative way of thinking. Depending on what you need, she can integrate elements of:

Person-Centred Therapy– providing a compassionate and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace.
Parts Work & IFS-Informed Practice – helping you understand different internal parts and the protective roles they may have developed.
Grounding & Stabilisation – building skills that can help you remain connected to the present when trauma responses become overwhelming.

Angela has particular experience supporting people affected by trauma, sexual violence, abuse, coercive control, PTSD/CPTSD and dissociation. She can also support difficulties including anxiety, attachment and relationship difficulties, depression, family relationships, grief and loss, life transitions, pregnancy and birth experiences, self-esteem, self-harm and stress.

Angela is also a qualified clinical supervisor trained in the Hawkins and Shohet Seven-Eyed Model of Supervision. She offers supervision to counsellors, psychotherapists, therapy students and people working in helping professions, including support and advice workers.
