Dr Eleanor Reed
(she/her)
Chartered Counselling Psychologist | EMDR Therapist

Dr Eleanor studied and worked in China and Hong Kong before embarking in her career as a Counselling Psychologist. Working for international businesses involved her meeting new people from all around the world, working out their needs and wants then building trusted and collaborative relationships. Dr Eleanor believed that she could transfer these skills to help people and pursue a career in psychology. Something that she had always dreamt about doing but knew that it would mean starting from scratch again to rebuild her life and re-train.
When Dr Eleanor relocated back to the UK she understood what it felt like to experience a sense of loss - she would need to leave the life and career that she had in Asia to start over. Dr Eleanor recognises that as human beings we all experience loss in our lives (whether that's loss of identity, loss of a relationship or loss of a loved one) just to name a few. Dr Eleanor is passionate about helping and empowering people to rebuild their lives and find themselves again post loss and post trauma.
Throughout her doctoral training and in her work in the NHS and third sector organisations Dr Eleanor has specialised in helping people recover from eating disorders and sexual violence and abuse. She also specialises in psycho- oncology, helping people who are impacted by cancer whether that's the person themselves or a loved one. Dr Eleanor is confident in providing a warm, safe and containing space to explore feelings at any point of one's cancer journey. She understands that it can turn people's lives upside down and it can affect those closest to them. She can provide joint sessions where appropriate to include a loved one.
Dr Eleanor also works extensively with traumatic loss and grief. She understands that grief is a normal and healthy response to the loss of someone close. When grief is more complex or traumatic, people can feel a sense of persistent sadness and an inability to cope years after the trauma. Dr Eleanor is passionate about alleviating these symptoms and helping people return to a sense of normal so that they can reclaim their life.
Dr Eleanor pulls from a number of different therapy modalities (humanistic, CBT (including third wave), CAT and EMDR. She is pluralistic in her approach ensuring that she is inclusive and culturally competent to meet the needs of all individuals.
